row row row your gondola

We arrived into Venice late in the afternoon to our gorgeous BnB. Being our first night in Italy, we headed straight for pizza and prosecco.

Venice is warm and muggy. We would've hated to have visited at the height of summer. First day we made it to Piazza San Marco - the main touristy bit - and it was hot and we didn't want to wait in the line for the Basilica so we wrote that off until the next day.

Instead we wandered the alleyways and canals. We ended up in a piazza in the more University end of town for cheap spritz (the drink in Venice), a ceremony we ended up enjoying every evening.

We visited the Peggy Guggenheim museum via traghetto (it's a gondola, but just crosses the river and only costs half a euro - all the glamour shots without the price tag).

Here's the glamour from the return trip.

The weather was with us for our entire stay - we got postcard perfect evenings to end each day.

The one thing we never got our head around until we arrived was just how narrow most of the alleys in Venice are. It's like a labyrinth that's fun to get lost in and doesn't end with David Bowie stealing your baby.

Lunch!

So it's ciao for now. James and Beth. X.
